Often local genealogical society's and/or historical society's have inherited scrapbooks from people who have kept obit's.  Here in Lake County, Oregon we had the DAR Schminck Museum.  The Schminck's kept notebooks of marriages and obit's.  Much to the delight of folks who are ancestor searching.
