To those of you doing HAMILTON research -- do you know anything more about
this man?

Thaddeus M. HAMILTON, a Civil War Veteran
b. abt 1847 in Illinois; he was a 3-yr-old living in Brown Co., Ill. at the
time of the 1850 U.S. Federal Census (6th of 7 children) in the household of
Wm. and Elizabeth Hamilton.

As a resident of Mendon, Ill., he enlisted as a Private in Co. A., 50th
Infantry Reg., Illinois on February 1, 1864. Serving on the Union side, he was
mustered out of the same company July 13, 1865 at Louisville, Ky.

In 1870, a Thaddeus Hamilton was living in Sparta, Chippewa Co., Minn. He
homesteaded 160 acres of land there according to Minnesota Land Records dated
April 3, 1875.

At the time of the 1890 Veterans Schedule of the U.S. Federal Census,
Thaddeus M. Hamilton lived in the South Eugene Pct., Lane Co., Ore.

On July 16, 1890 he applied for an invalid pension based upon his service
with the Illinois Infantry. Application was made in Oregon.

Documents from the Oregon State Archives show that on September 9, 1890, T.M.
Hamilton enlisted in the Oregon National Guard. That appear shows that he had
3 prior enlistment's; 1 U.S. Service, 1 Minn. Nat. Guard, 1 Oreg. Nat. Guard.
He reenlisted September 17, 1891 - and then again October 13, 1894.

At the time of the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Thaddeus Hamilton was at the
Oregon State Insane Asylum in Salem. He is listed as an "employe" - a gardener.
Information in that census says he was widowed with one living child.

A page photocopies from G.A.R. records show Charter Members of Post #40,
Eugene - HAMILTON, Thaddeus M. Pvt. Co. A, 50th Illinois Infantry. He moved to
Salem, Ore., living there in 1912, he was a member of Post #10 in Salem.

He died at the Oregon State Hospital, Salem June 17, 1916 and is supposed to
be buried in the Milliorn Cemetery, Lane County. The record of his death in
the State Hospital journal says simply "disposition - Eugene."

I have been researching the pioneers in the Milliorn Cemetery, Junction City,
Lane Co., Oregon and would appreciate any other information about this man --
especially an obituary and/or some other indication of his burial place.
