It is sad that so many records are irretrievably lost. Unfortunately the
care and keeping of records for cemeteries is sporadic at best. I worked for
a small town parks and recreation department where part of our job was the
cemetery maintenance. When researching records back to the late 1800s we
found that different sections, ie. Masons, Catholics, Alaska Native, and
even Buddhists were all managed by separate groups, and none or little
communication or coordination between them. The most consistent management
of one of the sections was by an interesting gentleman who kept most of what
he knew in his head, and didn't share. There was also a heartbreaking series
of vandalism events with headstones destroyed and moved in the mid 1960's.
These were probably never put right. Various surveys and mapping projects
have been undertaken, but this is in a cemetery that doesn't go back all
that far, and still has some current burials. I do recall those metal frame
markers from the Pleasant Hill or View as I think it is called now, outside
of Wilsonville, Oregon. I am trying to work with my parents to replace some
of our Shaver Family markers. I am also getting addicted to this research. I
appreciate that so many folks are making my work easier. I appreciate all
the volunteers and associations who take care of these small cemeteries.
This is my first posting, so I hope I haven't embarrassed myself. Fran

We hit several Oregon cemeteries that used the
metal frame with plastic insert and with passage of time
all you had left was the metal frame. Without a cemetery
record, might as well take a photo of the gate or overhead
name of the area. This was over in Josephine County.
