I wish I had known all this wonderful history before I took my little vacation to Rockaway.  My sister and I did spent a considerable amount of time driving up and down the coast and the little towns inbetween were amazingly beautiful to say the least.  A welcome change from city life.

i have read many books on bayocean and have been ther hundreds of times.  i 
can no longer read books or the newspaper due to complications from 
diabetes.  at the entrance to the road that leads to bayocean is a large 
sign that gives some of the history of the area.  i can only comment on what 
was there about 4 years ago and contrary to some beliefs, the remains of the 
buckled road are still there.  the ocean has pounded over the area which was 
bayocean for many years but it is still quite an experience to walk the 
entire stretch of the roadway and beach area that once was bayocean.  the 
town itself was way before my time but i went to grade school in what is now 
a hall but then was hemlock grade school.  a two room school where my first 
teacher was mrs. cross.  i have some VERY old pics of the school and the 
area where it used to be.  before the river took out some of the road, a big 
draw was east beaver.  so much to see.   i really hope to get down there 
again and take somepics of the area.  i also have a really great pic of the 
entire school of hemlock which was taken when i was in the 7th or 6th grade. 
when i graduated from 8th grade at that school i was fortunate to graduate 
at the head of my class.  of course there was only four of us that 
graduated.  i have friends and relatives still in the netarts and garibaldi 
areas.  i have even walked to the big G above garibaldi many years ago.  as 
a class in grade school we were taken by but to the tillamook burn area and 
planted hundreds of trees.  we had a smoke house next to the woodshed that 
always seemed to be a'smokin.  my brother, who was a few years older than me 
used to gaff the salmon out of beaver creek.  illegal but sure tasted good. 
our neighbors were the fox family, the guthrie family, and the passwater 
family.  some are still there.

Are you familiar with the 1989 book by Bert Webber:  "Bayocean, the
Oregon town that fell into the sea."  ?
