Dan;
thank you for that link, i know have that web page save to my Genealogy/Info
misc folder where I will promptly forget I put it.
I have another question about that cryptic note;
"I have a lot of AFF. collected from my great grand dad, seems he did a
lot of that, I wish I knew if he really knew those people or if he did it
for money ?"
Grandfather took affadavits for money??
as part of the WPA program or whatever??
I know there are millions of words of valuable history that were preserved
there and a lot of which are now available online, but if not that, how
would taking affadavits be connected with making money.
Also from what I have read and heard, these folks often became friends to
the person doing the recording, sometimes because they were the only person
who ever "listened" to something the talker thought was important to say (a
feeling I can relate to very well from my experiences as a returned peace
corps volunteer when folks ask me where I served) and sometimes just because
the "listener" discovered a very fascinating person behind whatever facade
the person being interviewed normally presented to the world.
I just had my memory jogged by my son of an interesting fellow I knew as a
child, seperate email to follow on subject, sorry all you folks who hate
Or-roots blitzes, but compelled by subject matter.
