Hello listers. I am not a Griffin, but I do have a picture that I took Memorial Day 2005 at a cemetery in Hillsboro, OREGON. My husband and I were there looking for his great grandparents.
I saw this beautiful hammered metal headstone and took a picture of it. When I got closer to see what it said, it had the following on it.
"In memory of Mrs. Desire C. Griffin b. June 12, 1805 Elliot St., Boston, Mass. Missionary to Native Tribes 1839. Continued as helping missionary till her death, September 22, 1884, in her 80th year.
Now here is the important part: First white woman in Tualitin Settlement July, 1841. First white mother, November 9, 1842. I'm sorry, I did not take a picture of the side that showed her husband's information. (I know, NEW RULE: always take picture of all related family members.
Tualitin is now Tualatin and is outside of Portland, Oregon.
Please let me know if you would like a copy of this picture. I would be happy to email it to you, of course at no charge.
