Thank you for the historical trip through Portland. Thing I remember most about Jantzen Beach was the ballroom where I went to hear and dance to Louis Armstrong. Much more exciting than the rides available. I remember when the man committed suicide and knew some of the firemen whose job it was to clean up the mess. Ugh! Thank you again. Aileen

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU NANCY!!!

  I loved it.

If any of you don't know, the original merry go round from Janzen Beach is in the Janzen Beach Mall. I love that I can take my grand kids there and they can pick out their favorite horse to ride. I still ride the same ol' paint that I did when I was a kid. They have a little area there that has some of the original memorabilia on display.

We used to go to Janzen Beach every summer. My dad and his friends worked at Reynolds Metals Co. in Longview, WA and every summer they would have a company picnic at the park. The only thing we had to pay for was the roller coaster and the bumper cars. So, we picked strawberries for money.

We were entering the gate when I was about 8-10 years old and a guy committed suicide by jumping from the roller coaster and he landed not far from the gate and almost hit a bunch of people. So sad.

I only went to the fun house once in my life. My mom and her best friend had two kids each and we had had a great time inside the fun house. But, when it came time to leave, you had to walk past all those monsters!!!! It took five attendants to help them get us kids out and I never went in there again! I remember when the fun house burned down and the "Fat Lady" out front was laughing all the time the fire department was trying to put out the flames. Really creapy.

  Becky
