Hi Bob,
I think that you may be referring to Dan and Louis' Oyster Bar. That is one of the restaurants my husband's family would go if they went out to dinner which wasn't often as there were 9 kids. We just had a family get together there. They are about to celebrate 100 years in business (next year I think).

I remember two places in Portland but mot the names.
1. This one was near the River and, at that time, in the Slums. It was called Jack's All American Steak House (I just remembered!) When we went there once we had to step over a sleeping Drunk in the Doorway, But inside it was very Clean and the best Seaks around.
2. This one was down town also and looked very plane from the outside, but inside it was decorated just likethe inside of an old sailing ship. It was expensive but a great place to go. Don't remember the name.
Also remember the Battle Ship Oregon. my Dad and I got to climb all over it, even down in the engine room, and i n the Gun turrets. this was before the War.
