This information sends shivers down my spine. It certainly narrows down
the time for Verna Marie's death and also for my grandmother's divorce.
If she was still married to Noah Hardwick on June 5, 1917 and I found
her living in Portland with Noah's brother Jesse in 1918 and then my
mother is born Feb. 1919. Somehow she divorced Noah and married Thomas
Flynn by the census of 1920. Maybe my mom's dad wasn't who she thought
he was, this is very strange and a little scary.

I looked at the 1910 Census again. Noah was 15 at the time living in
Branham, Whitman County Wa. With his father TJ (I assume Thomas) and
mother AM (I have seen this as Amanda but don't know for sure). His
brother Jesse was living with an uncle if I remember correctly.
There was no middle initial for him in the 1910 Census.

There's a little confusion about Noah Hardwick's middle iitial. Here
are
things I found on Ancestry.com Noah Hardwick married Venus Howell,
daughter of Thomas Howell and Lillie Mae Hoskins. Children: Verna
Maried
(?) Hardwick. No dates or anything. Information submitted by B. King
Kingb247 at aol.com This submission shows Venus was married second to
Selden
Flynn and their first child was Clifford Flynn?? plus 3 daughters.
Also
incidates she was married third to J. Ernest Chedar and they had 1
daughter,
Ruth Chedar. Assume this B. King might be a good resource to at least
check
with.

1920 Stockton, San Joaquin County, California Census
        Thomas J. Hardwick Head Widowed
Noah H. Hardwick Son b. about 1895 in Washington
Divorced

1930 Portland, Multnomah, Oregon census
Hardwick, Noah F. born about 1895
Hardwick, Edith wife born about 1895
Hardwick, Warren son born about 1925
Hardwick, Maxine daughter born about 1928
According to Oregon Death Index, Edith died 20 Oct 1931 in Marion
County,
Oregon, Certificate #756, spouse: Noah.

Oregon Death Index
    Name: Noah F. Hardwick
    County: Multnomah
    Date: 1 June 1963

Oregon Death Index

    Certificate: 86-16109
    Birth Date: 3 April 1893
    Spouse: Noah

Social Security Death Index
    Noah Hardwick 540-07-8411

1910 census lists Noah's mother as A. M. Hardwick, don't know if this
might
be her.

Assume this may be your Noah's brother since the 1910 census listed him

Just a comment in response to your comment. I think this group is very
good
at checking on genealogy and being willing to help others. However, if
there are no queries, I think sharing memories of earlier times in
Oregon
is very good in helping to fill in the blanks about what your ancestors
might have done in earlier time periods.

Good luck!

Sue

Subject: [or-roots] A Query

I have only been on the list a few days and I think I know why some
people
are dropping. Maybe they are new like me and haven't seen anything yet
related to genealogy.
I will try to do a query and I hope someone out there can help me. I am
trying to find a death record for a child named Verna Marie Hardwick. I
think she died sometime between 1915 and 1919. She was the child of
Noah
Hardwick and Versey Venus Howell. She was born Sept. 11, 1914 in
Oregon,
but I don't know where. I also would like to have an actual record of
her
birth as this date was given to me by a volunteer at the Blue Mountain
Genealogical Society and she didn't tell me where she got it.
This child is a total mystery in my family. The legend was that she was
drowned in the Columbia river by her father who had gone berserk. I
don't
think I believe this story because I have found Noah Hardwick in the
1920
census or maybe it was the 1930 living with a new wife and 2 children.
He
had a brother named Jesse that seems to have dropped off the planet
about
1919. I found him living (Jesse, that is) in Portland in the City
Directory
of 1918. He was living with his brother's wife at the time. Does
anyone
have access to early obituaries in Portland?
I know this is more than one query, sorry. I am just very frustrated
over
this as I really want to know the truth.
