And a wonderful job he did, too. I don't know about the "stacks" but the public areas of the building are
really beautiful.

Before the new Archives building was built...our valuable records were in a sort of huge warehouse down by
the river in Salem.  It is a wonder that anything survived that environment.  I was there, and was simply
appalled that the State 'fathers' did not allocate money  for a descent location and building for the
history of Oregon.  Then when this needed building was built there was a lot of silly comments, and
refusals to attend the dedication by some politicians.  It is my understanding that the contractor
upgraded the materials at his own cost, and the building was finished before the expected date.
