I use the "split" function to do what you want it to do. First click in a box where you want a "Split" to occur. Then go to the "Windows" pulldown in Excel and then click on "split". This will give you a line across and down. The "split" line is moveable by holding your mouse on the line and moving it where you want it to be and allows you to move the split where you want it both vertically and horizontally. In this function you can then scroll both ways and have the items you wanted on the top or on the side or both. To undo the split just go back to "windows" and "remove split".

Jack Ciaccia

Click on Window on the tool bar. Click on freeze panes.
To un freeze, click window again and click unfreeze.
That will lock the top section........hope that helps.

Subject: [or-roots] I need help
I am trying to make a Microsoft Excel chart---have the cells the size I want.
Now I am down the page to line 23 where I cannot see the topics at the top. Is there a way I can see the top without having to go up and down every time I enter something into the cell?
This is an 1875 census schedule.
Thanks much--and make the instructions very easy to follow--I get confused easily!!!
Diane
