I lived in Portland udring 1951-52 and remember the Waddles out on SE Union as well as the one at Jantzen Beach, Yaws out on Sandy, Crystal Ballroom, Paramount theater and its statues around here and there. Very classy place to go for a movie. Then there was the Blue Mouse that was uptown from Broadway and I remember going there probably about 1942 with a friend. Remember lots of cartoons. It was a great time. aileen

Subject: [or-roots] Portland Theater
My older sister Lois grew up in Portland in the late 40 and early 50's. She married in 1954, moved away but moved back in the late 60's. She seems to remember the "Roxy" theatre turned into a burlesque theater sometime in the early 50's. The only theaters she remember were the Premier theater and they were the "Broadway" and the "Paramount" in downtown Portland. Her girlfriend and she went and saw "River of No Return" with Marilyn Monroe. She also remembers the Coney Island" cafe with Johnny Ray singing on the Jude box.
