Congrats, Linda! You may say you had help from others but without you spearheading it and being persistent it would never have happened.

For all you Or-Rooters who helped me while I was researching this man, I want you to
know that the Junction City Historical Society and the Sons of Union Veterans of the
Civil War, Col. Edward D. Baker Camp #6 will have a dedication ceremony on Saturday,
August 19th at 10:30 a.m. at the Milliorn Cemetery at the west edge of Junction City.
(If anyone would like to be there, email me for more details and directions.)
With the help of many, many friends, I was able to prove his service, his residency in Lane County and Marion County and, "beyond a reasonable doubt" that he was not buried
somewhere else. So the Veterans Administration sent a proper headstone which was
set in May and the dedication has been scheduled. Whew! what a ride!
This has been one of the most rewarding research projects I've done since I first started
my own family research 30 years ago.
Now, there is supposed to be a third Civil War Veteran buried in our tiny cemetery. All
we know is that he is listed on about three different G.A.R. and cemetery lists only as
GURLEY. I'm supposing that is a surname. Without a given name, or a state, or
any dates, this might be impossible. But, if we have a long wet winter, I just might try.
Thank you to all who helped me with Hamilton and -- anyone want to take a stab
at GURLEY?
