[or-roots] Reunions

There are still family reunions being held. Through the internet I discovered information on my husband's ancestors - the Hoffers of Snyder County, Pennsylvania. They have an annual reunion on the last Sunday of July at a park which is built on land donated by the immigrant Hoffer and they have a standing reservation for that date. I asked my mother-in-law if she was interested in attending and I drove to Washington and we flew out of Seattle in 2001 for the 78th annual Hoffer Reunion. Their 83rd reunion was held three weeks ago. Our Oregon connection to this family was Phares and Maggie (Hoffer) Straub who died in Linn County and are buried at Brownsville Cemetery.

On a more personal level for me, we have a reunion with our Mitchell cousins every two years alternating locations in Oklahoma, Texas, and Colorado where most of them live. I travel there from Oregon each time. I take advantage of every reunion to update them on where we are in the research ("we" being my brother and I) and printing out reports and trying to get updated information on the families of these cousins.

  Subject: [or-roots] Reunions

There was an interesting article in the Tuesday August 15, 2006 Oregonian, Food Section, about an Italian/American family that has been doing family reunions for the last fifty years.

I wonder how many other Families are doing reunions that we never here about and what a great opportunity this would be to promote Genealogy and the resources we have to those who may not be aware of us.

Over the last couple of years I have heard a lot of individuals looking for individuals and just as many others willing to help. But I have not heard of many family reunions.

To this end I propose opening up this forum to the discussion of Family Reunions. The ups and downs, the ins and the outs, the successes and failure

  Any takers
