[or-roots] Reunions

I've been married for 36 years and my wifes family (the Clifford Ray Carr b. 1-22-1895 and Blanche Durell Hilliard b.2-26-1896 family)has one every year. Their reunion has evolved into a two or three night camping trip to different campgrounds every year. My wifes grandparents have both died but the reunions have continued although we now only average about 50 - 60 people instead of the 100 or so we used to have. We usually have 4 generations represented each year. Golf on Friday is a mainstay and if we are near a lake or reservoir watercraft will usually be part of the activities.

For a good many years my husbands family had reunions. Then some passed away and it stopped for several years, but two uncles in their 90's wanted one this year. There were 75 people there and more had signed up but got sick.

Several years we held it at the fairgrounds, and then it was held at one of the relatives homes. We had people come out from the East Coast to the West Coast for these reunions. One thing we found out is that the younger members of the family are now interested in meeting and getting to know their relatives.

When we first started out to have our reunions it was pot luck and then become catered.

There was an interesting article in the Tuesday August 15, 2006 Oregonian, Food Section, about an Italian/American family that has been doing family reunions for the last fifty years.

I wonder how many other Families are doing reunions that we never here about and what a great opportunity this would be to promote Genealogy and the resources we have to those who may not be aware of us.

Over the last couple of years I have heard a lot of individuals looking for individuals and just as many others willing to help. But I have not heard of many family reunions.

To this end I propose opening up this forum to the discussion of Family Reunions. The ups and downs, the ins and the outs, the successes and failure

    Any takers
