Reunions are Great, my niece has one every year for our Cross family, my wife's family has one every year usually in Kansas, but we have not been able to make that one yet, I try to take my family photos and info for all to look at, but reunions can be time consuming many of the families are starting to think that instead of every year going to every two or five years as many live in the Midwest or East Coast and can not come every year, the Midwest families had a reunion this year in South Dakota but do to health as well as high gas prices I did not go.

The King Family of Kings Valley, Benton County, Oregon, has been holding family reunions for well over 100 years - about 125, I think. At one time it was called the King-Chambers reunion. They are held in the Kings Valley area - in a park at one time and for the last 20 years or more, at the Kings Valley Charter School. We usually have between 50 - 80 in attendance and have also noticed that in the past few years, we are seeing more young families - not just old timers wanting to reminisce but those wanting to know more of their family history.

We bring family charts, photos, research materials, a copy machine and also have a poster on the wall for each of Nahum & Sarepta King's children - there were 16 total. We keep track on each poster of descendants who have attended, showing their relationship to Nahum and Sarepta King. Our King Family Historian maintains records of the families. The morning is devoted to research and visiting, then we have a potluck lunch at noon followed by a business meeting.

Most of the family came to Oregon in 1845 on the Oregon Trail - part of the Meek Cutoff that is now known as "The Terrible Trail."

The reunion is always held the Saturday after Father's Day and always in Kings Valley so no one has to wonder from year to year where or when it is! Mimi Stang, President, King Family Association

There was an interesting article in the Tuesday August 15, 2006 Oregonian, Food Section, about an Italian/American family that has been doing family reunions for the last fifty years.

I wonder how many other Families are doing reunions that we never here about and what a great opportunity this would be to promote Genealogy and the resources we have to those who may not be aware of us.

Over the last couple of years I have heard a lot of individuals looking for individuals and just as many others willing to help. But I have not heard of many family reunions.

To this end I propose opening up this forum to the discussion of Family Reunions. The ups and downs, the ins and the outs, the successes and failure

Any takers
