The Cobb Salad, like margaritas and chimichangas, may have a murky history, but here is another version:

http://www.kitchenproject.com/history/CobbSalad.htm

at http://www.lakecountymuseum.com/robinsoncollectionroom.html they say, "Did you know that the Cobb
Salad was named after Cobina Wright?"

Will we ever know for sure?

By the way, I didn't know this, due to my fading memory (ok, I never knew this) Cobina, Sr. (who was born
Elaine Cobb) was born in Lakeview in 1887, and became a socialite in NYC.

This will have you in stitches: http://time-proxy.yaga.com/time/magazine/printout/0,8816,748394,00.html

and this: http://time-proxy.yaga.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,822184,00.html

And, daughter Cobina, Jr., (b 1921 in NYC) whom Mama apparently saw as her heir apparent, became a glamour
girl star in Hollywood. On Bob Hope's show, in 1939, after she sued him for making fun of her.

Now, all of this doesn't say anything more about the Cobb Salad, but I'll bet you that Cobina, Jr., and
Mama were in Hollywood, probably frequenting the Brown Derby in 1937. Maybe Bob Cobb was a relative?

Hmm, there's an Essie on the 1900 and 1910 census, b ca 1888. Could that be "Elaine"? If so, Bob Cobb
wasn't a brother to Elaine, as her mother had only one child. There was a sister-in-law in the 1900, named
Helen. In the 1880 there is a Benjamin, b Mass, who is living with a bunch of other sheepherders, not yet
married to Della, Essie/Elaine's mother.

Going too far, here, aren't I? Well, just some morning's exercise.

Pat (in Tucson)

Buried near Jordan Valley is the son of Sacajawea...John Baptiste Charbonneau.

Cobina Wright was a Lakeview girl. She created the Cobb salad as well as had a wonderful singing voice.
