The relationship on census forms is the relationship of each individual to the head of household, so the step-son relationship would be to Isaac Lehman.

        Nothing is known of Ezra's background. He is listed in the 1880
        Census in Marion Co. Kansas with Susanna as Ezra Burkholder, step-son,
        age 17, born in Canada. Susanna was then 37 & married to Isaac
        Lehman. From Gospel Herald Obit. Ezra was born in Ontario Aug. 1, 1862 died in
        his home near Molalla, Oregon where he resided 23 years. He moved to Kansas
        in his youth and was married to Ada Kauffman. They moved to Oregon in 1900.
        He was baptized Feb. 1924 and continued in the fellowship of the Bethel congregation
        and a member of the Mennonite church until death.

      Darlene,
      All we know for sure is that he was raised by Susanna Schrock from Ontario.  She probably 
      was his mother but have never found a birth record.
