Thank you. Just so you know Seldon was a cook on the steamboat not a
book.

Dale

Sorry for the delay, we were in the Bay area for the PAC 10 basketball
games. Well, we beat Stanford, and lot to Cal, so it was a good weekend!

So here is what I found

 Year: 1920; Census Place: Stillwater Ward 2, Washington, Minnesota;
Roll: T625_866; Page: 7A; Enumeration District: 185; Image: 998.

Thomas S. Son w m Sept 1891 9 S Minnesota Ireland Canada/E
Daniel R. Son w m [Mar?] 1895 5 Ireland Canada/E

Based on the date listed in 1920, which indicates he was naturalized in
1891, and the fact that Thomas S. was born in Stillwater in Sept of
1891, according to the 1900 census, I'd be checking in the Washington
County, MN for the naturalization papers.

I've only done one or two naturalizations, and found them in county
courthouse records, so am not the expert here. Perhaps you could begin
at the http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnwashin/ to get some names of people
and courthouses.

Good luck.

Pat

I went home and tried to read my notes and the census I copied
at the archives. My eyes must be a lot worse than they were a few years
ago when I made the copy. I think they only asked about citizenship in
the 1910 and 1920 census but am not sure of that. I need to go to the
library and use Heritage quest to look them up again so I can actually
read what it says. If you have access and good eyes maybe you could
read what it says.

When I first started I assumed they were married in Canada and
then came to the states. But after I found these two censuses I
realized that she came here when she was only about 3 years old and he
came just after the civil war so I was able to find their marriage
record which was in Minnesota.

If you do have access to heritage quest and wouldn't mind
looking they are in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census in Stillwater,
Minnesota. Their names were Daniel Flynn and his wife Catherine
(Sometimes, Kate, sometimes Katherine). Children Edward, Harry George,
Genevieve Mary, Thomas Seldon and Daniel Flynn, Jr.

More investigation may be required. Who were the people that
"provide those documents"? Depending on the year, the docs could be in
the county courthouse, a state office, or even NARA, I suppose.

Why don't you give us the details, and maybe someone can assist.

Oh, I'm leaving Thursday for the Bay Area, where some good
basketball should break out, but between now and then, or when I get
home. . . .

	Pat (in Tucson)

I have an ancestor that has the NA in that column and I
assumed it meant Naturalized, but when I tried to obtain the
naturalization papers for that person, using the date, place etc. I was
told by the people that provide those documents that na meant not
applicable and that the person was not naturalized after all.
