Does the record specifically say Idaho?  There apparently is a fairly good-sized town of Idaho Springs, Colorado, and since he enlisted in the Colorado Cavalry, perhaps that's the place?

  Does anyone know where Idaho Springs, Idaho is/was? My gr grandfather's brother, James F.J. Cooper enlisted in the 2nd Colorado Calvary in 1863. Idaho Springs was listed as his home.
