This is Attention Barbara Wulf;

Barbara;

I am curios if you have ever run across this story;

Melvin Butte;

Deschutes county. This butte is in the foothills of the Cascade range about
ten miles southeast of Sisters. It was named for J.L. Melvin who took up a
timber claim nearby about 1902. Melvin got into a controversey with S. H.
Dorrance, which is said to have started because Dorrance put sawdust in
Melvin's irrigation ditch. As a result of this altercation Melvin killed
Dorrance on the side of the butte now known as Melvin Butte. Melvin was
cleared by a jury which considered that he was not to blame for the
difficulty.

Now that seems like an extreem reaction to m, which begs the question, "what
kind of jerk was Dorrance that a jury let Melvin go free for ridding the
community of him?" What I am really curious about though is whether he is
family to Eugene or I??
