Just thought I'd throw some of my thoughts in.
I got into the Geneaology stuff because I didn't know my grandfater Goodman's full name. I was lucky to obtain a death Cert For him and a Birth Cert for my Grandmother. I didn't know what to do next except that I was interested in my Roots. Someone told me to try Ellis Island. Well not much came of that. Then I was told of the LDS Site "Family Search" and that got me going. Then I found RootsWeb and with those and some info from GenCircles I have been able to trace the four main line of my family back to England, Denmark, Scotland, and Wales. I'm a real Tightwad and didn't want to spend money so I used these Free Sites.
I've found that about 98.134% of the time I can dig out what I need.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'm a firm believer in the KISS principle ( Keep It Simple Stupid) Therefore I start any search for a name by going to RootsWeb first ( I really think it's the best Free Site) then Family Search, then Gen Circles.
Yes, I've asked for help on ocassion and you have all been real helpful. I have also helped others on this list so I think it works out just Grand.
