Not sure this is directed back to me - our thread has gotten broadened. But
if so, these are the Parks kids.
Caleb, James Wade, and so on. I did find the land - and a couple great maps,
by the way, but I'm at another computer just now -
I just think someone missed the boat on what kind of land it was. All
showing up as homestead, not timber.

What is the name of the person who owned Whitman County land. The timber
cultures were not necessarily timber that existed when the land was
purchased. A part of the agreement to care for the land if you will was
that a certain amount of the acreage would be used as a timber culture. In
other words, it would not be put to the plow but would be in timber. One
heck of a lot better farming practice than is the idea of plowing every
square foot and watching the wind blow it hither and yon
