DNA & GENEALOGY
 
I am not an expert in this area of genealogy but I do have some basic knowledge and am currently working on improving what I do know.
 
There are eight different DNA research projects currently going on.  Family Tree DNA and Oxford Ancestors both started in 2000.  They are the oldest projects.  They rest came afterwards.  Family Tree DNA company headquarters is located in Houston, Texas and Oxford Ancestors is located in England.
 
Family Tree DNA is the largest and they use the facilities located at the University of Arizona.  This lab also is the testing facilities for the National Genographic Project which started in 2005.
 
The Genealogical Forum of Oregon (GFO) (For which I am a Life Member) has a DNA interest group that meets the first Monday of each month from 1-3 PM at the Forum’s headquarters in SE Portland, Oregon.  www.gfo.org 
 
You can check the Forum’s web site for more details.  Also you will find a link to Family Tree DNA and when you decide to purchase a DNA test if you use the Forum’s link you will get a group rate discount versus the individual rate offered by Family Tree DNA.
 
NOTE: You do not have to join the GFO to order your DNA Test.  Although I would be remiss if I did not mention that membership is open to everyone.  And everyone is welcome.
