If you go to Stephenie Flora's web site on Oregon Pioneers and click on the  
year 1851 you will find your James H. Shortridge listed as well as the 
notation  that he most likely came with the Isaac N. Miller family of Mercer County,  
Illinois. I note that you, Jim Cook, are listed as the researcher with this  
name, so not sure that I understand your question.
