I just ran across an interesting discussion of the origins of Oregon in a
book on Heritage Quest;

Burnett, Peter H.
An old California pioneer
Oakland, Calif.: Biobooks, 1946, 309 pgs

What caught my eye was the discussion on marriage laws, it included
requirements for recording the transaction.

I haven't followed through to figure out why we have such a detailed
analysis or the history of Oregon in a "California Pioneer" book, but I am
sure it's fascinating.
