Paulette;

I don't know anything about Arlie, but your Donation Land Claim question is interesting. I din no Polk Co claim for Denns Madden, but there are two in Union Co;

NWNW 32/ 2-N 40-E No Willamette OR Union

SESE 30/ 2-N 40-E No Willamette OR Union
 E½NE 31/ 2-N 40-E No Willamette OR Union
 SWNW 32/ 2-N 40-E No Willamette OR Union

There is an Ambrose Madden with a homestead in Columiba Co, and a George L in Hood River, otherewise all the Madden claims are east of the mountains, I also don't turn up any Sumner's in Polk Co. There is a Calvin in Jefferson and another claim (same guy?) by a Calvin Sumner in Clackamas Co., also a Berta, Clara and a in Lane. Actually there are a lot of Sunner Clains in Westside, Just none in Polk..

If o8nd no reference to any Medden in the DLC index.

I'd haemmer at it osme more, but getting too sleepy to keep face outta keybord.

Subject: Fw: [or-roots] Madden farm in Polk County, OR in 1880

hello,

Does anyone know if Mr. Arlie Holt is still around? I wrote to him, but haven't heard anything back, so just wondered. I am trying to find out information on a Madden farm sold in Polk County, OR in 1880.

Thanks,

Paulette M. Switzer-Tatum

>>Hello,
>>
>>I am wondering if anyone could help me in my search for some information on a Dennis Madden (married Sarah Jane Sumner Madden in March, 1877 in Polk County, "at the home of Samuel Sumner," as per marriage cert. in Oregon State Archives; Sarah Jane Madden died in July of 1877) who may have owned or been related to owners of a farm in Polk County around 1877. This Madden farm was sold in 1880; it had been part of a donation land claim. The source for the above information about the sale is "History of Polk County" a compilation of pioneer and family stories, not an actual history with references, etc. I have been unable to trace any details about the sale or the Madden owners.
>>
>>How would I go about tracking down more information? If anyone could help me with my "plan of attack" I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
