It seems like they were wondering who it was named for?

Looking for Cynthia Hayes in 1910 Census I stumbled across;

Herschberger Peter 32  ma 4 yrs Iowa
		Ida    27	  4  s kids 2 living Oregon
		Arletus R	  1 9(?)/12
		Florence      3/12

conidering the frequency with which that surname appears, I would wager
these folks are connected to whoever the mountain is named for.

Or am I reaching?
