[or-roots] Discontinued Ancestry.com Access to the Family History Centers

Actually, it never occurred to me that the FHCs were getting Ancestry free. Go figure! On the other hand,
if the quid pro quo for the "service" was access to the FHL, then I guess it wasn't really free. Nor,
would that be "looting" I suppose.

Anyway, I really doubt that any of us will see the day when everything we could ever want is digitized
(unless, there are some reallly young folks on this list).

Thanks to David, the State of Arizona, the Library of Virginia, NARA, and every other entity, and
especially to the volunteers doing the scut work, to make this happen.

Pat (in Tucson)

|Truth be told - they already cut off as of yesterday!
|
|Even worse - Ancestry folks had been "looting" Family History
|Library to
|get the images, etc. Iowa State Census is one example.
|
|Once the FHL complete the digitalizing of entire collection, Ancestry
|will have nothing to compete with because it is free.
|
|Family History Library is looking for volunteers to index digitalized
|images projects now underway.
|
|go to http://www.familysearchindexing.org/en/index.jsp
|
|Several states' death certificate projects are done.
|Utah, Ohio, Georgia
|Texas in process.
|Arizona already done (genealogy.az.gov)
