I have a very complete history for my gr-gr-grandfather and all his descendants, but I have not been able to prove or disprove the suggested Indian ancestry. I will try the web site. Thanks.

It can't be stressed enough that you search you Indian Ancestry just like you do any other ancestor. The first thing you need to know is where this family lived and the best way is through census records. After you have found them, try this page http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/proving-indian-ancestry.htm
Good luck

There seems to be several folks on this list who are very knowledgeable about Indian ancestry/history. My family verbal history claims that my 3rd gr-grandmother was a Native American named Chloe Bell. Conjecture has been that Chloe Bell was her "white man's" name. My gr-gr-grandfather was born in "eastern Tennessee" in 1808. Does anyone have any suggestion as to how to research this question back to the late 1700's?
