A great place to get a treasure of information on tracing your Cherokee
lines is a book written by my cousin:

"Cherokee Proud: A Guide for Tracing and Honoring Your Cherokee Ancestors".
By Tony Mack McCLURE.

Here is a link to the first edition that he wrote. _Cherokee Proud_
(http://www.powersource.com/gallery/tonymack/)

He donated his book to some of the libraries in the states that were located
along the "Trail of Tears". If your like me and don't live by one you will
have to purchase the book. Its well worth the purchase.

He still lives on the reservation in TN. You can contact him at 4040 Booth
Road, Somerville, TN 38068 or by E-mail: _CheroProud at aol.com_
(mailto:CheroProud at aol.com) He use to have a web site but I cant seem to find it anymore.

FYI: John Bryant was my gggg-grandfather. If you find a connection let me
know. : )

It can't be stressed enough that you search you Indian Ancestry just like
you do any other ancestor. The first thing you need to know is where this
family lived and the best way is through census records. After you have found
them, try this page

Good luck

There seems to be several folks on this list who are very knowledgeable
about Indian ancestry/history. My family verbal history claims that my 3rd
gr-grandmother was a Native American named Chloe Bell. Conjecture has been that
Chloe Bell was her "white man's" name. My gr-gr-grandfather was born in
"eastern Tennessee" in 1808. Does anyone have any suggestion as to how to
research this question back to the late 1700's?

Darlene
