MT is Montana I hope;
IF you are interested in that book you might want to go to google books and
download the pdf. It is a bit large, says here I have 17 minutes left to
download it and I am only 13 % thru.
Google; HISTORY OF WASHINGTON, IDAHO, AND MONTANA and the book should be
first hit.
I've been folowing the tribal membership discussion with interest as my
niece has been fighting that battle for several years, her mother started it
about five years before or so be for you started seeing me post questions on
Rondeau et al and it has been an uphill struggle all the way.
I ran into some of the distant cousins last week here in Reedsport inquiring
at our bookstore if they had any history of interest in her search to get
reinstated. It seems the Cow creeks were told to take some kind of census of
their members a few years back and anyone who didn't respond by a deadline
was stricken from the rolls. Since the cousin never received the paperwork
she was a little pissed to find out about it after she had been removed from
the rolls. Handy way to pick who you keep in your tribe.
While it is true that the rules for who is or is not a member are set by
each individual tribe, it is my firm belief that whatever those rules happen
to be should be followed by that tribe, but certain tribal leaders seem to
feel that they have the right to arbitrarily choose what rules they will
follow and when they will choose to follow them and there doesn't seem to be
much you can do about it.
