If he bought a truck and then leased to a major company, it could be said that he owned a trucking company. I know that my father did that for a few years and had a business license and the whole bit.

  Could this be his dad's business? Where he worked for a short time?  Maybe he had bought a truck (didn't say he'd paid for it) and was driving for someone else?
