Ah, come on, Les -- Del Norte?  When I went to school at Colorado State (I won't say when), my Dad and grandmother drove me from Flagstaff. I commented to my new acquaintances that I'd had really good French fries in Del Nor tay. They laughed. Then, I commented on Pwe[b/v] lo, only to hear back, "you mean "pee eh blo?"  I gave up soon after that. Apparently things haven’t changed much in 40+ years.

And, we used to say Casa Grand (ca as in cat, sa as in "yes, suh" and Nah va da (again, va as in cat). Living in Tucson, rather than Flagstaff has improved my tongue.

Don't feel bad about mispronouncing something, I was in the eighth grade before I realize the Vilahmut river was one I was crossing that said Will uh metty on the signs. I was a real prodigy!! Ever been down the Swee slaw river or seen the light house at Heck etta head?  And I live on the Um puke uh river. All those were from one newcomer radio station announcer in the '50's. He probably increased the station listnership 20 or 30 percent for at least a year just from folks tuning in to see what he'd butcher next. Boy did I get flak for pronouncing the second "e" in Del Norte
last summer!

As you may recall, I’m working on the histories of the families of T06SR01W – which partly includes Howell Prairie. In the next Twp west, T06S02W,  W Howell, is listed in 1878. The next twp south, 06S, shows DLCs that were Howells.  
 
The DLCs indicated in T06SR02W,  Sections 34, 35 are  Wesley Howell (Notification # 298 Claim #46), and Thomas C Howell (Notification # 291, claim #58). In the next Twp below, T07SR02W, section 3, was John Howell (claim # 47).   Do you happen to know who these Howell’s married? Particularly from Abiqua [which my Portland relatives tell me is pronounced A ´(as in “at”) bi (as in “but”) qua (as in quality). Accent on the “A” – I have had to be coached on many words up there. My southwest partiality toward Latin accents and vowels gets me every time, except for Willamette), Woodburn, or Silver Creek?
