[or-roots] 1852 correction

With 10,000 emigrants coming to Oregon in 1852 and another 50,000 going to
California more than one emigrant commented on the desire for some elbow
room.  It was the worst at the beginning of the journey because everyone was
trying to leave around the same time.  There were times the dust was so bad
that one diarist commented that he could hardly see his wheel oxen.  And
then when it rained they suffered through mud bogs.  They were definitely
traveling in each other’s pockets.

Accually you are right on both counts from what I have read and heard, they
did spead out to get out of each others dust and to find feed for the
cattle, but tried to stay close enough to each other in case help was
needed.

I am currently working on my 1852 listings and in reviewing some of my email
I see that I made a statement several weeks ago that there were so many in
the emigration that in some places the wagons traveled 12 MILES wide. That
should have said 12 WAGONS wide. Sorry for any confusion this may have
caused. My brain and my fingers were obviously not working together.
