[or-roots] why I can't stay focused

wouldn't that be a horrible thing to do to your kid?

I still can't figure anything out on that bunch; I am going to have to make
a trip to the courthouse and see if John and Marth's wedding docs shed any
light but I imagine it will be no more illuminating than the side trip I
made into the Melvin clan last night. I found a copie of a Wash marriage
cert of Clarence W. Melvin and Bess Hutchinson on 2 July 1936 and the only
clue it gives me is one of the witnesses is A. L. Hutchinson. Now if it had
been Robert Hutchinson, or J. L. or N. A. Melvin I'd have known I had
paydirt....

Oh well. I just got rudely reminded again I need to check LDS more often; my
myytery of Grover Nervand Bower is solved, all the time I spent trying to
find them in WA was in vain, they are in CA!!

I don't know why I do that to myself, now I will have to go see if Martha
Turpin is there.

Les C.

PS just to keep things really unfocused; do you know who Fitzhugh sound in
Alaska is named for? If you google that term the first hit should be a
google book "Alaska; the Great Country" that you can download if you are
interested. Second page has another book on BC that says it is named by
James Hanna but not who for. I suspect it was probably for some British
Fitzhugh not connected to Phoebe's people.

Now hows that for staying focused, we're supposed to be talking about
Martins in OR and I've led you thru WA vital recs, into CA by way of an
entirely different branch of my family line and at least back closer to Ms.
Martin by returning to the surname Fitzhugh and then I leave you in a furrin
country!

Okay Les...now you've got me doing it. I read your posting and the name
Martha L. Turpin struck a chord. Turpin...I thought I remembered Turpins in
my son and daughter's line. So I pulled up FTM and discovered why the name
was familiar: Turpin T. Thomas (m. Nancy Curl) was the father of Catherine
Thomas who married Clarence L. Morris on December 27, 1857 at "Eightmile
Creek", Oregon. He stuck in my memory because Turpin T. Thomas is a name
with such great alliteration...and with the middle initial "T" I can't help
but wonder if his middle name was "Tine"...
