[or-roots] DLC's

Well, husband was working on "my" computer <G>, so I thought I'd take a
minute and OCR the Book I on the laptop.
It took perhaps 20 minutes, and I saved it with a different name, as
sometimes when I do this the result is so garbled, especially dates, that
it's pretty useless.
But, it worked pretty well, from a cursory view.
So, Les, now what do we do with it?

Pat and all;
I hadn't thought of OCR, I was going to do it the hard way. Probably never.
I also want to point out that selected homestead information is available
from BLM; if you get lucky you might even find a copy of the patent scanned
an placed online.
I am in the middle of browsing a secton of Ohio looking for some of Linda's
elusive relatives and don;t want to time out looking for the link but if
anyone is interested and can't find it, look under USGLO records I beleive.
I can hunt it up later.
On a totally irrelevant note, just had my first famous Census hit; George A
Custer age 10 North Twsp, Harrison Co., Ohio 1850 census. That is a name you
don't see every day so I wiki'd him and sure enough parents emmanuel and
Maria.

Gerrie (and Les)
Les is speaking of the abstractions, but yes, you can get the "whole tamale"
on microfilm at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon in Portland, at NARA
(National Archives), and at the Oregon State Archives.
I think the abstractions are also now at Ancestry.com, but being able to
download from Heritage Quest is better, I think.
I hadn't thought about OCRing the book and making an index. Hmmm, maybe in
my spare time...
Hah!
