Have never been able to find out anything about his parents or if he even had siblings.
Family never spoke of him that I was aware of.

He's in the 1920 census and 1930 census with his family in Washington County.
Do you have the 1880 census which lists his parents and siblings?

The Martin (Mary or Mary Ann) with the daughter Cecilia is my great grandfather.
He was commited to the salem institution at a later date - after he had two more daughters, Emma and Julianna.

There is a Martin Vandenbrook in the 1900 census in Washington County, Oregon. He was born Dec 1870 in Wisconsin. Would that be him? He is in a household and is listed as the brother-in-law of the head of household.
This same one is in the 1910 census as Vanderbrook. He has a wife and daughter, Cecilia age 1.
What appears to be the same individual in the 1880 census in Wisconsin is listed as Vandenberg.

My great grandfather was supposedly commited to the insane asylum - his name was Martin Vanderbrook (Vandenbrook) and it could have been in the years between late 1890's to 1900's. It sounded as if he suffered with dementia???
Thanks,
Karen Wendt
