This is from Oregon Geographic Names by Lewis A. McArthur - 1982 edition.
(a very valuable Oregon resource!)

Lane County. The USGS map of the Cottage Grove quadrangle shows a place
named Royal about five miles northwest of and up Silk Creek from Cottage
Grove. There is not much left of this little community except the school.
Royal post office was established April 6, 1887, with Royal H. Hazelton
postmaster. The office operated until September 19, 1899, and it was doubtless
named for the first postmaster. Incidentally Silk Creek was at one time known
as Hazelton Creek. Royal H. Hazleton received two patents for government
land in this vicinity in 1867. Mimi Stang

My mother was born in the Royal community, just west of Silk Creek, toward
Loraine from Cottage Grove. I know how Silk Creek got its name (by
family legend) but I do not know the origin of the name of Royal. There was an
SDA school there for a few years - Royal Academy - and a store/gas station,
and a few homes.

If anyone knows the origin of the name, I'd appreciate it.
