IOF stands for International Order of Foresters. They were an insurance
company and I remember my parents joining in the 50's. They promised to
take care of orphans if their parents were "members" and I think they
had orphan homes set up around the country. They would also bury you.
I remember they were a big deal a long time ago and I even marched in a
parade once that was a group of us who were all "members".

I have a question, my great grand father Rogers in the Springfield
cemetery only has I.O.F on his stone and a war marker says he was in the
Wiss Inf 1844 but there is not birth or death dates and the cemetery has
no records of this plot with my other family , is there any way to find
out what this means and if there are records some place else or just how
to figure it out?

If I have a person who died at the I.O.O.F. home in Portland in
1929 -- and his wife was living in Marion Co.,
what is a likely scenario? Was it like a nursing home of today?
