No, I didn't find that at all, now that I know it is there, I can see it in
the index, but last night I sure couldn't see it, I guess I should be more
beware of making blanket pronouncements at the end of long days.

As to the numbers I recall haveing difficulty making the numbers in the
Genealogical Material book match up with BLM, but it seems to me like
somewhere in the BLM info the numbers in the book do show up?

In the book they start with number one and are consecutive for the entire
5289 DLC's, perhaps Denise has the right idea in that perhaps TD was the
first one to stake a bonafide DLC, either in his area or period, but others
filed theirs first.

The whole idea of his claim being first seems silly to me since there were
already some people from the United states in the Willamette valley when the
wagon train(s?) of 1843 came over, there was a mechanism created by the
provisional goverment of Oregon before we actually became a territory to
allot land to settlers in a manner similar to the DLC system and if I
remember right a DLC couldn't be filed until the area in which you claimed
land had been subdivided by the GLO.

It makes a good story for the family I guess.

"Genealogical Material in Oregon donation land claims" has

Vol 1, p 2
#36 Keizer, Thomas D., Marion co; b 1793, Cabarrus Co, N.C.; SC Nov 1844; m
Mary 13 Nov 1813, Montgomery Co, N.C. Aff: Wm D. Cole, Hiram English both of
Polk Co.

Thomas D and Mary had 608.47 acres in T07SR3W.

Vol 1, p 44
#1100 Keizer, John B., Marion Co; b 1824, Cabarrus Co, N.C.' Arr. Ore. Oct
1843; SC 18 Apr 1851; m Mary Jane 27 Mar 1851, Marion Co, Ore. T. Aff:
Pleasant C. Keizer, Samuel Penter.

John and Mary had 531.515 acres in T07S R03W.

(by the way, "Pleasant C" was, I believe, "Pleasant Cicero" and Samuel
Penter (I think) married one of the Keizur sisters.)

#1109, Keizur, Pleasant V., Marion Co; b 1828, Giles Co., Tenn; Arr. Ore.
Oct 1843; SC 25 Jun 1850; m Sarah 5 May 1850, Marion County, Ore. T. Aff:
John B. Keizur, Samuel Penter.

The BLM GLO records show Pleasant C and Sarah Keizur with 160.92 acres in
T07S R03W.

Interestingly, although "36" doesn't sound like the "first" claim, I don't
find one with a lower number.

In Tucson
(by the way, AZ just beat CAL 76-72, in case anyone [else] is interested!)

I have a quibble with this though, according to what I see in the DLC book,
TD never had a claim?
