It is interesting that so many mention ancestors of 1852.  Some years back I
recall a book I read about Oregon Migration and the thing that stuck in my
mind was that 1852 was the year of the largest migration to Oregon.  I find
that pattern in my own families that emigrated.  Many came different years
but 1852 has by far the largest numbers of emigrants to Oregon.

I have diaries for 1844 and other stories for a few other years but for 1852
I have only one book that mentions my relatives (so far).  It is a book that
resides in the Oregon State Library in Salem, Oregon but is fairly widely
available.  It wasn't a diary per se, more of a remembrance book that wasn't
big on lots of details but just in case some want to look for their
relatives in that tale I share the reference.

"Reminiscences of an Old Timer" by Colonel George Hunter; published by H.S.
Crocker, San Francisco and Company, 1887. There are at least three editions.


The William Hunter family traveled overland to Oregon in 1852 and although
the book is primarily about George's life in Oregon, some small details of
the family's journey are found in the reminiscences.
