Disease and accidents were the cause of the majority of deaths on the Oregon and California Trails.

Incidently the 2013 Oregon California Trails National Convention will be in Oregon City and planning

is currently underway, I am on the Communications and Publicity Committee.

I had understood that the disease outbreaks along the trail were mostly related to the large numbers of people and tendencies to all camp in certain locations with poor attention to sanitation.

I agree that web site is amazing though, Here is a link to a document about someone dear to us here in Oregon;

I was attracted to the letter because I thought it might be connected to some Eastman  letters connected to my Wisner family, but it is about Sacajawea and her descendants etc.

Bet you all could spend hours at that web site.

Ever wonder why and how some of our ancestors and other relatives died “along the trail” or shortly after arriving at their destination?

Here is a very interesting piece of work on the subject.

After you get to the site, search for “ Historical Epidemiology”  as the piece is more than half way down the page.
