Subject: [or-roots] Nelson Obituaries
I am hoping to find the obituaries for Anna Christina Nelson, died Dec. 2, 1919 and her husband Emil Sophus Nelson died Nov. 16, 1928. Both died in Portland. Are death certificates available through this site for a fee?
Thank you
Lynda

http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/tour/services.html These death certificates are available from the Oregon State Archives. Basically it would be $5 each if you live in Oregon or $10 each out-of-state. If you happen to live near Salem or are going to Salem, you can go by the State Archives and make a copy of the death certificate from their file for 25 cents each. This link will give you info on the services and fees for the State Archives. This information on this death index including name, date of death and certificate # are all you will need to be able to order. You can phone or order by e-mail, all the info is included on their website.

i saw a ancestry file for my people, I should know the creator of it, but like Less says - our minds are getting older - any how, I noticed they posted 4 probates, but did not post any thing else. Am waiting response from those people.
If Layne could find more on Walter than I did when I used to come there, that would be great.
Also in the great interest, circa 1904 -+ a tad, obit ( Oregon- Eugene/Springfield)
Henry Rogers ( possible ) William Henry Rogers but the head stone is military it seems, there is a pic here on my site
http://www.d-matney.com/Henry-Rogers.html
we cant find - who paid, or simply any thing and not even who his dad was, I was in hopes, some of the people here, might be able to find what I could not, mainly the obit.

Dan; As to the surname thing as far as I know there is no real rhyme nor reason to that, it is strictly up to the woman at the time of divorce. I have a friend who has been through several husbands, but always reverts to surname of 1st one, most likely because that is the surname of her children.
Do you have the DLC history. Depending on final proving dates on those, assuming it was proved or whatever the term for completion of paper work there, it might include probate IF that is the case it should show up in the DLC book.
If their was any probate process the bare minimum is there should be some notice published in the local newspaper at that time. Unfortunately finding that can be harder than finding the courthouse records. My memory being what it is I don't recall the circumstances of his demise; if you don't have a certain location and time for his death it is possible he just disappeared. That is the case with my maternal gg grandfather.

I have the probate.
Several good genealogist have read it too over the last dozen years, it give no clues. I will post it when I find it.
Walter was said to have an entry in the very first book in Modoc co for water rights, I have never seen a photo of that, but I know he had land deals and DLC in Oregon and CA. What I can't figure is how can a person die and just disappear when they have so many legal issues. Must be a mention some place about that. I found the mention of Julia in an article someplace about the Grants pass death, until then, I had no clue.
We looked for her many years. But with several names its hard. After Walter Matney, she married Rowe, I was wondering why?== if she applied for a divorce and after Rowe she went back to using Matney?
Dan
