Thanks everyone who responded with such good leads. Looks like Frank Abell sold his Portland photography studio with all the negatives in 1888 to Elbridge W. Moore, who operated the business until 1911. Don't know what happened after that...

>Do any of you know how I might find out if there are archival materials, etc. for a Frank G. Abell in Portland, OR? He had a photography studio, The Abell Studios, for sure some time in the 1880s. My cousin has sent me a scanned copy of an old photo, of a female relative we are trying to identify, taken in this studio sometime in 1881 or after. The back of the photo indicates "Abell Studios - Frank G. Abell - Portland, Oregon - negatives preserved" and there is a sticker or medallion that says something about an 1881 exhibition award.

>I found a few references to Frank G. Abell and his Abell Studios online via the NWDA that has family collections with photos taken there, but no details that I could locate on where his archives might have gone, and/or if there are any archived records at all.
