I have been to the Friends Cemetery in Newberg as I have 14 relatives buried there.  It?s a well maintained cemetery.

and then going to the Archives from there?

to the home page and then navigate to the sections you want.

Hi, I just tried it on my laptop & it worked Archives website. Something must be out of wack on my home computer..

On a trip to Kansas City this last fall I had the opportunity to again
visit the Mid-Continent  Genealogical Library.  It is overwhelming as I
never have the couple of weeks to spend there that it deserves.

This trip I came across the Dewey Decimal System for genealogical data. 
Each state has its? own number, each county, then at least each city.  I
suspect non-city regions also but did not pursue that.  Anyway, the
example sheets I got were, naturally enough, for the state of Kansas.

Therein lies my question:  Does anyone know if there is a site online, or
available elsewhere, that might have an index to the WHOLE genealogical
system for the United States?

We have been cataloging our books with Dewey for many years, but only by
general subject as that is the only index we have had.  I can just imagine
how much more valuable the resources would be cataloged correctly.

Now I understand this might be old hat to some, but it?s new to us!!

possibly/probably missing something but I do not see how to get other
states, counties, places, etc. from the referenced site.

I  have  a  brick wall. Here is the information I have on my husband's
g-g grandmother and her husband and my question:

Thora  Sophia  OLSDATTER1?2  was  born  in  Oct 1850 in Christiansand,
Vest-Agder, Norway.3?6 She immigrated in 1872. She appeared in the census on 16 Jun 1900 in Astoria, Clatsop, Oregon. 

From 1900 Astoria census:
Pearson, George, head, white Male born January 1850, 50 at last birthday, married 16 years born in Norway, both parents born in Norway, immigrated in 1870, in the US 30 years, naturalized, occupation: US Light tender, o months not employed can read, write and speak English, owns home, free of mortgage, house.
Pearson, Sof??, wife, white female, born October 1850, 49 at last birthday, married 16 years, mother of 4 children, 4 children still living, born in Norway, parents born in Norway, immigrated in 1872, 28 years in the US, can read, write and speak English

Thora   Sophia   was   married  <?>  before and had two daughters: one
<Mathilda> in
Connecticut  1873 and my husband's g-grandmother <Sophie> in Ohio 1876.  Both moved with
her  to  Astoria and married there.  She  had other children, too, Mabel and George with
Pearson.

My  question  is  this: I have a lot of information on George from the
newspapers  and  wills  for both he and Thora, but can't figure out if
they  married in Astoria or elsewhere. Trying to find Thompson, who is
the  natural grandfather, but no clue where to begin. Can't find birth
records  for  the  girls.  Have  checked  a number of Thompsons at the
Archives  for  the period but no one fits. I'm thinking the lighthouse
service may be the clue but no records found in DC.

Any other ideas about tracing this couple? Any help appreciated!

This is just a wild thought, as I don't see where Thompson is mentioned 
before you say you are looking for him, but ...

It does seem like a lot of folks from that part of Europe spent time in 
Michigan and Wisconsin before they wound up on the Oregon Coast, often 
via Kansas it seems.  By the way, I'm looking for definitive information 
on my Great Grandmother, Emmaline Elizabeth Green, b Oct 1871 in WI  
(maybe), married 1890-ish to Robert Casebolt probably between Story 
County, IA and Saline County, KS.

Have you tried Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK) online? You can look for a volunteer in the country of choice such as Norway to see if there is information there that might help, such as how the Scaninavian patronymic worked, farm names, census and parish records, etc. I was helped a lot in my family research by some kind volunteers in Norway. Their info helped me trace my people here in the US. You can make donations to RAOGK.

There is a tree on Ancestry.com which does not answer the definitive 
information you've identified.  Does indicate there was a daughter, Ruby 
Mae Casebolt b. 1890 in KS, the submitter of the tree is from Kansas.

I performed a photographic record of all headstones in north-east Clatsop
County.  The cut-off date was 1900. Any stones older than that did not get
included.  The photos are all gone, but I think I still have  a copy of
the index.  I'll look for it.

The library numbering system you describe sounds very much like the  
one we use at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon here in Portland.  If  
you are interested, check out our web site, www.gfo.org.  If you click  
on "Check out our library catalog" on the left side of the home page,  
and then click on any category, such as "973-979," you can see both  
how the books are numbered and browse the titles we have.  Note that  
there are listings for things that are state-wide (or multi-county),  
by county, and by city.  Also by geographic region for things that are  
multi-state.

Some of our holdings, both books and microfilm, have been indexed by  
our volunteers, and these indexes are also on line.

also anyone who is on facebook can see your data even if you mark it private. 

I know of several people who have had there computers hacked via their facebook 

accounts. 

And do not use a Cell phone or W ireless I nternet connection when makeing a charge card 

purchase, I just had my Credit car d number used Illegally and have been told that is probably 

the way they got my card number, anyone can buy a monitor at radio s hack that can pickup 

Cell or wireless communication, in fact when I am on the cordless phone I can hear my neighbors 

talking on thiers.

groups felt Facebook is safe, it is safe for you.

No Facebook accounts can be hacked, but can be duplicated.

No payments can be made through Facebook.

I should know because I have Facebook myself and have YET to have my 
account hacked because of the security settings I set.

AOL and HOTMAIL are worst! Hacked accounts being used to spam many 
Rootsweb mailing lists with virus-laced links.

One of the problems -- too many Robert Casebolts -- and not all of them 
are Robert as sometimes the first given name is something else and then

brother Bill (apparently killed in the labor riots of the 20's), and 
their mother's heritage.  Their half brother, Austin Gray, is noted for 
his involvement with the Neon Majorette, a well-known San Diego 
"sculpture".  However I know little of Austin's descendants, unlike his 
full brother, George.

Type only RAOGK and you will find two - one withmore than 700  
volunteers and one with 8 admin. Both are connected. Use one that has

The interface has a distressing habit of reverting to Norwegian after you aske for English and I haven't entirely mastered their search engine, but if you go to family search and can find the right parish information then getting to your actual document is much easier. Of course then you have to figure out how to read it. I have several ancestors saved on my computer, but since they are on a page with a dozen or more unrelated folks I have a hard time showing them off to people if I can't remember where my person is. Especially if I have them in my family file as Roberta or some such and in the original parish register they are Berta or whatever.

I have several ancestors saved on my computer, but since they are on a page with a dozen or more unrelated folks I have a hard time showing them off to people if I can't remember where my person is. Especially if I have them in my family file as Roberta or some such and in the original parish register they are Berta or whatever.

Elizabeth who emigrated to Polk County, Oregon about 1840. John is my third
Great Grand Uncle, His father was Ezekiel East and his mother was Elizabeth
Worsham East of Pittsylvania County, Virginia. I have extensive information
on both families going back to the very early 1600's.
