[or-roots] Cemetery North East of Heppner

Dale, Is it possible you drove from Pendleton to Heppner by way of Pilot Rock and over Franklin Summit? By your description, the most likely cemetery you describe is the Vinson cemetery which is not on Hiway 74 at all, but it is near Butter Creek.

Dale,
I'm surprised that no one has yet mentioned the Oregon Historic Cemeteries
Commission. Kuri Gill who is in charge of the program is very knowledgeable
about old cemeteries in the state. It is ironic that they Commission just had
their quarterly meeting in Weston this past weekend. Go to the Heritage
Commission website and then to historic cemeteries.

Dale, the other option would be to
list the name of the headstone that you photographed and perhaps someone in
that area would recognize it OR search find-a-grave for that name and if it
is listed, find the name of the cemetery where it is buried.

Also many of the Morrow County Cemeteries have been transcribed and you
    might find the name there.

      Dale,

      The
Findagrave site often has pictures of the entrance to cemeteries, perhaps
checking that would reveal the name of the cemetery. Those that
don’t have photos sometimes have at least a map attached to orient
yourself from the road you were on when you encountered the
      site.

I got out just in time, I think. I was in Walla
Walla and went to a family reunion in Milton-Freewater on Oct. 1. It
was hot in Walla Walla while I was there but then on Monday we headed out
toward Pendleton through Heppner. It was starting to cool off and
was quite pleasant. By the time I got to Reno, Nevada it had dropped
over 20 degrees. On Thursday it snowed and when I left for home on
Saturday, Oct. 8 the Sierras were all white. Very nice to not have
been snowed in as I was leery of that.

I bumped into an unmarked cemetery just a little North
East of Heppner. It was out in a field behind two fences. I
walked up to it and took a picture of one of the very large stones.
I don't know if I can attach pictures to this site or not. I wish I
knew the name of the cemetery and I also wish I would have written down
the names I saw. It wasn't very large but had a lot of stones in
      it.

Does anyone out there know the name of this
      cemetery?

       Well, seems quiet
      here.

Its been colder out side, I
spose more folks will be online soon.

Been freezing up here in the outback where we
      live.
