I was doing some digging and ran across an old [2009] post to?OREGON-TRAIL-L Archives asking about Blalock. It seemed to be a Washington question but the person asking?"Laura C" <pinkya at gte.net>? was looking for a McArthur lookup and didn't seem to get it?
If someone on here is on that list too they might check to see if she got an answer. The info she wanted was probably; "Dr. Nelson G. Blalock, a pioner citizen of Wall Wall and a veteran of the Civil War, ? . ? . ? . ?died in Walla Walla 14 March 1913" ?Blalock was a UP station W of Arlington now under John Day?reservoir, There is also a peak named for him in NE Umatilla county.?

The Weston, Oregon Cemetery Index has been updated through April 2011.  This index was originally built on information that Garland Wilson had researched (and allowed us to post online) and then we updated that information.  The index was brought up to date in the last couple of days.  More information about the index, missing information,  and changes is available on the website.
The cemetery site can be found at www.HistoricWestonOregon.com You can also find the Blue Mountain (Kees) Cemetery and the Hyatt Cemetery as well as other historical information for Weston.
This is one of several sites that have recently been developed for the community of Weston.  We've also added:
The Umatilla County Pioneers Association is now online at www.UmatillaCountyPioneersAssocation.com  I'm looking for information and photographs on past Pioneer Days as well as Past Queens and Grand Marshals.
The Isham Saling House website is back up after being lost for a few years.  www.IshamSalingHouse.com  Information has been updated and we expect to add more photos, history and other information as it becomes available.

This IS a thank you to all that gave me help on my research this past
July/August. I went to the Oregon Archives and the State Library and found a
wealth of information.  Each and every person I came in contact with was so
gracious and helpful.

 

I now have to send to Vital Statistics for four cert. And get one death cert
from Idaho. This will complete my direct line complete as far as Oregon
research is concerned. Then it on to getting the California info.

 

The reason this is so late is I have been held captive in my bed because I
broke my foot Aug 2 playing badminton of all things.  Of course I don't have
my email on my laptop so I am searching over six thousand emails.

I visited Weston once several years ago, but couldn't really find the town.
I was followed the whole time by a policeman who must have thought it odd to
see a California license plate driving through this residential
neighborhood.  I was looking to find a school if there was one and if I
would have found a library that would have been great.  My grandmother grew
up in Weston and went to school there.  Do you know what days the library is
open?

LOL Yeah, I'm sure you were followed.  Small town, not a lot to patrol so "strangers" get a lot of attention no matter where you are from.  The town is off the highway. There is better signage on the highway now.  Watch for flashing lights on the highway.  
The library is on Main Street. White picket fence in front. If you check out the Commercial Historic District page on the same site you found the cemetery information you'll see the building along with City Hall and the Police Station.   www.HistoricWestonOregon.com  Library has a website, too.  www.WestonPublicLibrary.com  Their hours are posted on the home page. The librarian is very helpful and if you contact her in advance I'm pretty sure she can arrange to be there if it is not during the usual hours.
We set up a general gate way page for Weston at www.WestonOregon.com  That will give you links to other information.
The Weston and Athena schools have combined their classes.  There is a school in Weston.  It's up on the hill and it is kind of hard to find if you don't know what street to take.  The entire complex has just been nominated for Historic Site status and from what I understand it has been approved on the state level.  
I can put you in touch with someone in Weston who would be glad to show you around.  Just let me know.

I was followed the whole time by a policeman who must have thought it odd to see a California license plate driving through this residential neighborhood.  I was looking to find a school if there was one and if I would have found a library that would have been great.  My grandmother grew up in Weston and went to school there.  Do you know what days the library is open?

Right, I realize that now, but I just didn't think there was a town left.
He also kind of freaked me out by following me around like that.  I didn't
know if he was going to give me a revenue ticket or what.  How do you find
the town?  I was coming from Pendleton and I turned off on this road to
Weston and it wound around for a while and then at the bottom of the hill
was about a block of houses that I drove around and then I was back on the
same road I came in on.  Cute what there was......

My father-in-law was born in Weston. It has been a while since we were
there. Don't forget to go to the cemetery. There was a library at that time
and a lady there that was very helpful. She remembered families that used to
live there including my father-in-law, he moved away when he was about 17.

What year was that?  My grandmother lived there in 1910 (census) and I'm
pretty sure that is where she went to school.  She only went to the 2nd
grade but you would never know it if you talked to her.

I am wondering if this Lieuallen is a different spelling of Lleuelen.  I
have seen that Welsh name a lot with my Quaker ancestors.

I do not know The Weston website just shows that Lieuallen was 

a Mayor of Weston and papers that I have on my father show the 

sale of the allotment to a Lieuallen family, do not remember the 

full names offhand. 

My father and his family lived in Athena Oregon, called Centerville 

at that time, which is not far from Weston.

The Lieuallen families lived in Weston, Athena, and Adams.  The Umatilla County Pioneers Association site has a list on the home page of early day pioneers which includes several Lieuallens living in the area.  http://www.umatillacountypioneersassociation.com/  There are members of the Lieuallen families who have served as Pioneer Queen and Grand Marshal and those lists are also on the site.
 I also created the Athena Cemetery index several years ago also based on the research of Garland Wilson.  This was part of my former Umatilla County site. It was moved over to A Place Called Oregon www.gesswhoto.com  and can be found at http://gesswhoto.com/um-cem-athena.html  There are several Lieuallens buried there as well.  By the way, all Umatilla County cemeteries are at http://gesswhoto.com/um-cemeteries.html  but have not been updated.

Okay now you have my attention; one of my perennial quests is my great Aunt Elizabeth?Beaulah?Melvin who married Timothy Lockwood probably in Indiana or Michigan and their daughter Eva married a William Llewellyn in 1870 in Indiana. ?I have run across them with many variations of spelling including the ones mentioned here. Since I have fairly well documented William and Eva's known children it is unlikely the folk mentioned here are of great interest to me, but it is possible they are connected.?
I believe my William is son of William b abt 1815 PA and wife Eliza same, who can be found near my Lockwoods in the 1870 Dalla Iowa Census. He had siblings Mary E age 20, Cephas age 14 in that Census. Cephas is ?buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dallas Co. IA and I haven't really traced the family much further than that, but the reason I mention all of this is Cephas is listed as Luellen in all documents I have found for him and the family is also transcribed that way from the 1870 Census.

What year was that?? My grandmother lived there in 1910 (census) and I'm pretty sure that is where she went to school.? She only went to the 2nd grade but you would never know it if you talked to her.

Have you ever looked at Quaker records for him?  The reason I ask is that
Llewellyn, Llewelen, etc. many variations of that name, which is Welsh were
Quaker's and they had excellent records.  Their migration pattern was from
Pennsylvania to North Carolina to Ohio then Indiana and Iowa and finally
Oregon.  They traveled in groups and intermarried like crazy.

The Lieuallen's my father sold his allotment on the reservation to were Thomas A. and Laura A. Lieuallen 

this was in 1916 for 120 acres. 

On the reservation census there are a number of Lieuallen's.

Patronymics were used for last names into the mid 1800s. So a son of Robert was ap Robert, and later became the surname Probert; son of Richard was ap Prichard, and became Prichard later. There are a lot of mutations in Welsh; like the example that K. Jones gave of Llewellyn Fawr as in ?"Llewellyn the Great" - you'll see fawr as mawr such as in Bryn Mawr.

Okay now you have my attention; one of my perennial quests is my great Aunt Elizabeth?Beaulah?Melvin who married Timothy Lockwood probably in Indiana or Michigan and their daughter Eva married a William Llewellyn in 1870 in Indiana. ?I have run across them with many variations of spelling including the ones mentioned here. Since I have fairly well documented William and Eva's known children it is unlikely the folk mentioned here are of great interest to me, but it is possible they are connected.? 


I believe my William is son of William b abt 1815 PA and wife Eliza same, who can be found near my Lockwoods in the 1870 Dalla Iowa Census. He had siblings Mary E age 20, Cephas age 14 in that Census. Cephas is ?buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dallas Co. IA and I haven't really traced the family much further than that, but the reason I mention all of this is Cephas is listed as Luellen in all documents I have found for him and the family is also transcribed that way from the 1870 Census.

What year was that?? My grandmother lived there in 1910 (census) and I'm pretty sure that is where she went to school.? She only went to the 2nd grade but you would never know it if you talked to her.

The Oregon State Archives will hold an open house Saturday, October 8th, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm as part of the celebration of Oregon Archives month.

Tours of the building will be offered on the hour and will provide visitors with a chance to go "behind the scenes," see the records storage area, learn more about the Archives and its holdings, while being guided by an Archives staff member.  Tours will last about thirty minutes and include the opportunity to see some of Oregon's most significant historical documents, including the original Oregon Constitution. In addition, visitors will also have an opportunity to conduct research as additional staff will also be available to assist them and make records available to them to use.

The lobby gallery will be open and is currently showing a collection of scenic photographs from around the state. We will also be showing a video in the lobby celebrating 100 years of the Oregon Blue Book. The Blue Book is published by the Archives Division and we will have both the 2011-2012 edition and a facsimile edition of the 1911 Blue Book available for purchase at the event.

Light refreshments will be served.

So, please join us in celebrating National Archives Month and take advantage of this special Saturday opening.

The State Archives is located as 800 Summer Street NE in Salem.  Normal operating hours are 8:00 am to 4:45 pm Monday through Friday.

It was approximately 1937,38 that he left Weston and moved to Sweet Home,
Lebanon area.

Dear Rooters,

We have been alerted to a problem some folks are having accessing the State Archives website

For many of these calls, the problem is that they have adware / spyware on their PCs called FunWebProducts.  The Secretary of State's IT staff are deliberately blocking their connection attempts because of the adware.  If they remove the adware, they should be able to get through.

FunWebProducts is a component of My Web Search and My Total Search.  To remove these products:
1) From your computer's Start button, select "Settings", then select "Control Panel".
2) Double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
3) Select "My Web Search Bar" or "My Total Search" and click "Remove". The My Web Search toolbar and the FunWebProduct feature have now been uninstalled.
