[or-roots] Donation land claims

I am not aware of DLC filings in a Lakeview office.

http://www.gfo.org/donation/index.htm is a site that lists a sort of index to all the land office filings by last name.

I’m not certain what they did with paperwork that was incomplete or not “proved up”. Timothy Long didn’t appear in the rejected list but that may not be where he would be listed if he didn’t complete the process. It is possible those records would have been “tossed” as incomplete as they didn’t result in a transaction for land.

You might want to check for a Homestead or land purchase by land patent.

The following link gives you an option for Land Patents. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/

I only saw Thomas Long in the list but there are a number of LONG claims in Lake County. The Land Patents might not appear in the Deed Records until they went to transfer the property. That has been my observation with my own relatives in Douglas County. The courthouse records don’t show the land record until they go to sell the land they had by Patent, or DLC.

Hope some of those links will be helpful to folks searching for land related questions in Oregon.

Hi Denise. I think that Timothy Long DLC would have been filed in Lakeview. Was at the Courthouse again and could not find anything. Thanks for looking.

There is a book (Volume IV Genealogical Material in Oregon Donation Land Claims – Abstracted from Rejected Applications) that covers DLC’s filed in Oregon City, Roseburg & The Dalles Land Offices)

The index lists the following:

Long, Catharine E. p 36

David p 3, 47

Daniel p 3

James p 7

Sarah Ann p 36

Nothing in that book for Timothy Long.

I haven’t researched the question to know if that is ALL of the incomplete DLC’s.

Is there a on-location where DLC's were filed and then not proven up on? I am searching for Timothy Long...who apparently died and was buried in the Paisley cemetery in 1882. There is a Tim Long creek south of Paisley. In 1880 he and a George Pike lived together in HH34/34. According to local lore he was killed in what for years was called Deadman's Hall. The location of that building is yet to be rediscovered! He was age 51 in 1880 census and from Ireland.

My main question is.....about the not proven up DLC's but yet originally filed upon? The only ones I could find in blmglo records were finished filings.

Thanks, Diane
