There is a possiblity that no one in the family signed a death certificate at the

funeral home tha t handled the burial, I have that problem with a half-brother

in Alaska his death certificate has never been signed by anyone in the family

and the funeral home still has it and it cannot be filed with the State until a

family member signs it (or Someone) and so far non of his children has plans to go to

Alaska, I do not know if that could be applied to Oregon or not.

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean because the cemetery was owned by the county, I meant ANY burial, ANYwhere.

Looked up the probable statute:

http://www.oregonlaws.org/ors/432.317

“ (7) Each person in charge of any place for final disposition shall include in the authorization the date of disposition and shall complete and return all authorizations to the county registrar within 10 days after the date of the disposition. When there is no person in charge of the place for final disposition, a responsible party other than the funeral service practitioner or person acting as a funeral service practitioner shall complete and return the authorization to the county registrar within 10 days after the date of disposition.”

So, perhaps there is a record at the county registrar?

In 1976 the county did not own the cemetery. The IOOF still sort of managed the cemetery. Their membership was dwindling. However a couple of years later much of the downtown area burned, which included those records. I am hoping someone will remember these people. Just so sad their family does not care.

Usually there is a “permit to bury” that has to be obtained.  Is that what the “county taxing cemetery district” has? Or, is that something else.

Pat, I have a copy of the map.  I called the only funeral home in business during that time and they had no record, because the people were not local and no one contacted them for a stone or any information.  The official records kept by the county taxing cemetery district only have names and the one date of 1976.  No town close.  45 minutes to Lakeview and that is closest.  Our county only has about 7300 residents and is 110 miles by 110 miles.  Lots of area and few people, thankfully.

No Church records either.

Frustration +!!!

Thanks for  the reply.   Diane

>From whom did you get the map?  Are there funeral homes/mortuaries around who might have something? What about church records?

Sorry to say I don’t know much of anything about Paisley, so I don’t know anything about the surrounding towns.

Buried in the Paisley, Oregon are several members of the Elder family.  They arrived here about 1868.

In 1976 a man by the name of Frank Elder was buried here.  Also listed on a map is his wife(?) Mrs. A. Elder.  There are no more records anywhere in the cemetery system as to who these people are.  Or where they came from or exact death dates.  We do not have a Frank Elder in our family records, which are rather complete.

I have read Oregon Death Index with no luck.

They have no headstones, either.

Does anyone have a idea who these folks are?  We would like to have someone in their family place a headstone or marker of some sort.  So sad, they are forgotten by their family.

Thanks, Diane
